Healthy treats can be sooo easy to make! Here are some good recipes! Im a very good cook- haha except when it comes to baking! so excuse my measurements :D

note: I think dogs should eat raw, I don't see a problem with them having a little treat on occasion! I give mine a treat or two a day and still consider her fed raw! Too many treats can make your dog pudgy, lethargic and unhealthy so don't spoil them on these too much! Sometimes instead of a treat Ill give her a spoon of her raw healthy goop, or sneak her a chunk of her raw meat :)

Banana honey biscuits

about a cup of natural unbleached flour

water to make a thick dough (not too sticky)

1/2 large banana or a whole small one

1 small carrot

sprinkle of olive oil

small amount of honey for glaze

1/4 cup organic peanut butter (less if you can still make it palatable!)

Grate the carrot and smush the banana, knead in with the thick dough mixture. stir in peanut butter. Roll dough and cut into same size shapes (mine are usually ugly but Maxie doesn't care!) brush with honey on tops of unbaked treats. bake at 350-375 (depending on your oven) for 15-20 minutes. Check to see if they are still doughy. If they are- Bake for another 5-7 minutes or until dough is cooked. I like to get them out and brush them with another light layer of honey and put them on broil (for usually less than a minute!!) to make them a little crispy! Makes about 30 quarter sized treats, less if you make them bigger.

Variations:

You can make apple treats using the same recipe above, with grated apple instead of banana. Or leave the banana and omit the carrot! You can omit the peanut butter and add a little extra honey, strawberries, spinach, apple for a colorful fruity treat. Maxie loves fruit!

apple cinnamon treats

1 large apple

1/8 tsp cinnamon

1 tablespoon honey

about a cup of flour

enough water to make thick dough

sprinkle of olive oil

Same as Banana honey recipe!

Variation: try adding a little extra water and some oatmeal!

Yogurt/cottage cheese treat  (1 serving)

1 oz plain unflavored yogurt or regular cottage cheese

1/2 tsp honey

add any of the following depending on your dogs taste buds: a teeny dash of cinnamon, stir in 1/2 tsp peanut butter, a few carob chips, a chopped up strawberry, or part of an apple or banana, organic applesauce, a raw egg....the list goes on

Mix the yogurt or cottage cheese with the honey

You can be creative- Just stay away from corn, too much grain, no grapes, raisins, NO onion whatsoever, and go easy on garlic. I don't like giving Maxie cheese, so i normally don't make this- but you can omit peanut butter and use 1/4 cup grated cheese. Honey can be poisonous to human infants under a year old- so be cautious giving honey to a young puppy.Small amounts like the first recipe just *brushed* on the tops of the treats... that should be fine!

*i like easy, easy recipes :D there are a few more complicated ones, but Maxie loves these just fine and I spend enough time in the kitchen already! If you have any recipe ideas you want to see up here, email me, Ill put them up and give you credit!
